Onitsuka Tiger (OT) is the fashion arm of the ASICS Corporation. Their product is strongly influenced by the brand's rich Japanese heritage and handcrafted' approach. Merchandise ranges include footwear, apparel and accessories.

We used reclaimed timber packing crates to manufacture fixtures, placed in the space, rather than a traditional store fit out

We were commissioned to develop a Factory Outlet concept for OT, with the prototype located at the Premium Outlet Mall, Las Rozas, Madrid. The brief demanded strong product presentation within an overall scheme which made sustainability a high priority. We used reclaimed timber packing crates to manufacture fixtures, "placed in the space", rather than a traditional store fit out.

This allows the furniture to be removed and re-used in the future, rather than ripped out and disposed of if concepts change. In keeping with the handcrafted brand essence, a tiger logo was ‘branded’ into the timber back wall using a steel stencil and blow torch.

We supported the ASICS European retail team with the design of a high street Onitsuka Tiger store concept, located on the Leidsestraat in Amsterdam. The concept is a fresh interpretation of contemporary modern Japan, fused with echoes of the brand’s heritage.

The store environment retains and exposes the existing wooden ceiling beams and brickwork, with a new bamboo floor and metal retail equipment. A key aspect of the concept was the ability for it to be easily ‘skinned’ with seasonal graphics to create a 3D billboard for the OT brand.

Customers are encouraged to walk the length of this long thin store, where towards the rear the space opens up to a double height area, which is clad in warm wood panelling that also acts as a flexible and innovative retail display system.
